About two months ago when I bought this, I was new to the idea of cooking up rice and just wanted something simple. I found this Zojirushi rice cooker and couldn't be happier with it. The manual provides instructions for cooking different kinds of rice and even some kinds of cake. For what I wanted - cooking white rice - it's nice and simple: Load the cooking bowl with the measured amount of rice (optionally rinsed as recommended), fill with water to the corresponding marking, put in the cooker and press cook. About an hour later, the rice is ready and in a keep-warm mode. I would recommend this rice cooker to anyone.

As a graduate from culinary school, I learned that perfect rice takes time. I am convinced that rice prepared stove top cannot turn out nearly as good. Brown rice is a great example. If your heat is too high the inside of the grain will not be cooked properly. If your heat is too low you might end up with a rice mush. Even though rice takes almost twice as long the results are fantastic. The timer function is an awesome addition for the steel cut oats in the morning. We love this machine and its simplicity. If you are in the market for a rice cooker, get this machine instead of a cheaper model.
